Cody Gakpo has admitted he wants to continue working alongside Mohamed Salah at Liverpool, urging the Egyptian to sign a contract extension.
Salah is approaching the final six months of his current deal and will be free to discuss a contract with foreign clubs in just days, with a number of the world's richest sides all said to be planning bids .
Liverpool hope to keep Salah, but has not yet reached an agreement on new terms. The 32-year-old recently confirmed that he had no updates to provide on his future after the 6-3 win over Tottenham Hotspur.
That game saw Salah move up to fourth on Liverpool's all-time goalscoring list and Gakpo admitted he hopes to see Salah racking up the goals at Anfield for years to come.
“It is very special what we are all witnessing,” he said media club. “The amount of goals he scores, but also the assists he gives, the way he plays the game, the way he puts other attacking players or midfielders like me in a position to score and be dangerous is a high level .
“I hope for us and for him that he can continue to do this for a long time. We are very lucky to have him and proud to be his teammate and try to make him better. And he's trying to make us better as well.”
January could be a nervous period for Liverpool, with Salah free to discuss a move away along with centre-back Virgil van Dijk and right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Like Salah, Van Dijk recently confirmed he had no updates to offer, but refused to set a deadline for his negotiations.
