Pep Guardiola sets Erling Haaland challenge to end Man City's slump

Pep Guardiola has urged his Manchester City side to change the way they use striker Erling Haaland as they look to end their woeful run of form.

City have won just one of their last 12 games in all competitions and have dropped to seventh in the Premier League table, with Haaland also enduring a tricky spell in front of goal.

The Norwegian has scored just three times in his last 12 Premier League games, having scored ten in his previous five games, and Guardiola admitted that City need to adapt their approach to scoring goals.

“It's about us, it's not just about one game,” Guardiola said. “When Erling was so prolific, it was about us, the team. But when you have problems at the back and in the middle, it's all about the team. Not just one player. If it's just one player, it would be easy to see why it is not about that.

“Erling is so important to us and will be so important to us. We have to use him better.”

Guardiola went on to admit that he is still looking for a solution townHe was ill but praised his players for working tirelessly to pull the team out of the current slump.

“This situation is new for all of us”, he continued. “It's about us, all of us. Boys run and try harder than ever.

“People say we're not running, we're not fighting, it's this player, this manager – it's not about that. It's about a lot of small details or a few big details that make us not as good as we were .But we have another option in Boks.

We have players coming back and at a certain point we will be better.”
