Virgil van Dijk offers 'deadline' update on Liverpool contract talks

Virgil van Dijk has refused to put a timetable on his contract negotiations with Liverpool, but admitted there is still no update on his future with the club.

Van Dijk is approaching the final six months of his contract and has already rejected Liverpool's opening bid for an extension, with the conditions at the table are not satisfactory for the 33-year-old.

That means the Dutchman is just days away from being able to discuss a contract with clubs overseas and there is likely to be no shortage of interest in Van Dijk if he becomes available as a free agent.

Despite the fact that the clock is ticking, Van Dijk insisted he will not put a deadline on his decision.

Confirming there were no updates on his situation, Van Dijk told reporters: “There is no deadline at all. We will see what the future brings.”

Van Dijk again insisted that his focus remains solely on matters on the pitch, starting with LiverpoolLeicester City visit on Boxing Day.

“I focus on Leicester. “Getting home as soon as possible to see my family and have a nice few days and then fully focus on Leicester. That's the only thing I'm thinking about.”

Van Dijk's contract update follows soon after Mohamed Salah also confirmed that he has nothing new to say about his negotiations for an extension.
