Meek Mill posted a series of tweets on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, expressing his thoughts on the recent media coverage of the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. He suggested the issue received more attention than the children killed in his hometown of Philadelphia.
“100 children were killed in my headline, the press stuck to one CEO …. I will never understand this! When someone gives me trouble, I'll just collect 1000 guns from the streets of Philadelphia without helping to clean up my community! I didn't come this far for outside games! Just pain and growth,” Meek Mill said.
As soon as his tweets went viral on social media, several netizens started sharing their reactions. Instagram user @TheNeighborhoodTalk posted screenshots of her tweet on her account, and another user responded, saying:
“I just hate messenger, but the message is spot on”
Many other netizens shared similar views.
Meek Mill's tweets were scrutinized when the rapper talked about being chased by police while legally buying a gun
After a recent shooting, Meek Mill also talked about how he legally bought a gun. He claimed that despite the legal purchase of illegal firearms, he faced pressure.
“Guns are sold by the boatload on the streets, I choose to buy legally and still get bullied for buying guns for people…don't even want me to legally protect me and my family! Racism is hiding in my country!” Meek Mill said.
He also said:
“I've been to the range over 10 times in different cities, but the cops in Pa asked me why I bought a gun! 10 rap friends were killed and I couldn't protect themselves! I'm working on my gun license, you know, help me not investigate if I don't back down!”
In another tweet, Meek Mill also spoke about the police alleging the rapper “pointed a gun at them” and then said he “should live like a felon for years.”
Meek Mill's words got a lot of attention as the Philadelphia Police Crime Map and Statistics recorded nearly 244 homicides this year as of this writing. However, in another tweet, he spoke about the violent killing of the UnitedHealthcare CEO and wrote: “RIP to that CEO and his life is important.”
Meek Mill, on the other hand, has criticized the media twice this week, reaching out to X to express his concerns about how the media portrays rappers. Jay-Z and Diddy. He said, “your goal is to start a false narrative,” and then insulted the American media, calling it “programming.” So far, members of the media have not responded to any of the rapper's tweets.
