Virgil van Dijk has backed himself to continue playing at the highest level for at least another four years as he reaffirmed his love for current club Liverpool.
The Dutch centre-back is approaching the final six months of his contract and has already turned down at least one offer for an extension, although he recently confirmed he was not setting a deadline for his talks with Liverpool.
In perhaps the biggest hint of his future yet, Van Dijk accepted Amazon Prime that he feels a mutual affection from Liverpool and has no desire to step away from the limelight at this point in his career.
“I love the club, the club loves me”, he vowed. “I love the fans, the fans love me and it's a very good basis to be successful.
“In my opinion, I can play for another three, four years at least at the highest level. We will see what the future brings.”
ex Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson, who made 182 appearances alongside the Dutchman during his time at Anfield, also warned the Reds that securing Van Dijk's future must be a “top” priority.
“I feel like Virgil could play until 39 or 40 if he wanted to,” Henderson said. “For me, if they give him a contract for two, three, four years, it would be quite good business for the club.”
