World number one Scottie Scheffler has pulled out of the PGA Tour to open the 2025 season after injuring his hand while preparing dinner on Christmas Day.
The Sentry takes place Jan. 2-5 at The Plantation Course in Kapalua, Maui, Hawaii, but the 2024 FedExCup champion is out for three to four weeks.
Scheffler successfully defended his title at the Hero World Challenge earlier this month, but will now require surgery for his incident.
“On Christmas Day while preparing dinner, Scottie sustained a puncture wound to the palm of his right hand from broken glass,” his manager Blake Smith said in a statement.
“There were small pieces of glass left on the palm that required surgery.
“He was told he should be back to 100% in three to four weeks. Unfortunately, he will have to retire from The Sentry.”
Scheffler's next scheduled tournament is The American Express in California from January 16-19.
The 28-year-old became the first player to win The Players, The Masters and the FedExCup in the same season.
