The Bengal cricket team has created history by registering the most successful run chase in Women's List A cricket. They achieved this remarkable feat on Monday, December 23, in the quarter finals of the Senior Women's One Day Trophy at Ground C, Niranjan Shah Stadium, Rajkot.
Chasing a daunting target of 390, Bengal openers Dhara Gujjar and Sasthi Mondal put up a 100-run partnership in just 55 balls. Gujjar scored 69 off 49 balls and Mondal scored 52 off 29 balls. Mita Paul had a quiet ride dismissed by Sheetal Rana for just 12 off 12 balls.
However, Tanusree Sarkar and Priyanka Bala took charge as they combined for a superb partnership of 111 runs off 97 balls. Sarkar scored a stunning knock of 113 off 83 balls which included 20 boundaries. Prativa Rana scored 28 off 26 overs.
Priyanka remained unbeaten, hitting 88 off 81 balls that included eight boundaries and a six to bring the Bengal home. Bengal won by five wickets with five balls to spare, setting a new record for the highest successful run chase in women's List A cricket.
Shafali Verma's 197 runs goes to waste
Bengal Women won the toss and chose to bowl. Haryana's opening pair captain Shafali Verma and Reema Sisodia played brilliantly, putting up an impressive partnership of 173 runs from 140 balls. Tanusree Sarkar claimed Bengal's first breakthrough, dismissing Reema for 58 off 72 balls.
Deeya Yadav had a tough outing scoring just seven runs. However, at the other end, the uncharitable Indian Shafali Verma took control.
The 20-year-old narrowly missed out on a worthy double century, falling short by just three runs. He scored a magnificent 197 off 115 balls which included 22 fours and 11 sixes.
Triveni Vasistha added 46 off 55 balls and Sonia Mendhiya added 61 off 41 balls. Haryana finished their innings at 389-5 in 50 overs. Tanusri scored three goals for Bengal.
