Liverpool have 'relaxed' on the contracts of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk

Liverpool are said to be “relaxed” about the contract situation of Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, who are days away from entering the final six months of their respective contracts.

The two stars remain among the best at the moment but are looking at their current deals ever closer to expiring, with Van Dijk and Salah free to discuss contracts with clubs overseas as early as January.

However, as noted by The TimesLiverpool are well aware that the tight January deadline is almost always used behind the scenes, with Van Dijk and Salah already likely to be aware of offers on the table from elsewhere.

Those responsible believe the pair want to stay Liverpool despite interest in their services, with Anfield chiefs unconcerned that negotiations could drag on for months to come.

Offers have been made for both players and Liverpool will continue talks with Van Dijk and Salah in the hope of signing two contract extensions.

However, the same belief is not shared when it comes to right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose contract is also coming to an end.

It is reported in Spain that Alexander-Arnold has expressed his desire to join Real Madrid have been rejected by Liverpool ECHObut there is an acknowledgment that talks with the defender are different to those involving Van Dijk and Salah because Alexander-Arnold is only 26 and still has a significant career ahead of him.
