Australian national cricket team captain Pat Cummins spoke about Travis Head's celebration after he took the wicket of Rishabh Pant in the second innings of the fourth Test. He said it was an inside joke and it was not something to make fun of the Indian national cricket team.
Travis Head has once again proved to be a massive obstacle for the Indian national cricket team in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. However, this time he chipped the ball and changed the entire course of the game in favor of the Australian national cricket team.
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant bring India back into the game after three early wickets
Chasing 340 runs after the Indian National Cricket Team lost three quick wickets, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant brought the Indian National Cricket Team back into the game. The two joined hands and batted magnificently, pulling the team out of the fray and putting pressure on the opposition once again.
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant ensured that the Indian National Cricket Team did not lose a single wicket in the post-lunch session as they were quite solid with the bat. The two added 88 runs together and with the way they were going, it looked like they would help the team level the match.
Travis Head removes Rishabh Pant and comes up with a unique celebration
But the turning point came when Head was given the ball in the final session. He proved to be the man with a golden arm when he removed Rishabh Pant. It is fair to say that the wicket changed the course of the game and also triggered the downfall of the Indian national cricket team.
Travis Head bowled a short ball which tempted Rishabh Pant to go for a big shot but he didn't get the right connection as he was caught at long on. This increased the pressure in the Indian camp as they lost seven wickets for just 34 runs in the final session and went on to lose the game by a margin of 184 runs.
What caught the attention of many was Travis Head's reaction after taking the wicket. The Australian National Cricket Team batsman came up with a unique kind of celebration as he pointed his finger at his other palm, which was shaped like a hole.
This saw Travis Head face a lot of criticism for his celebration. There were even calls by fans and pundits for the ICC to take action against the batsman. It became the main talking point, but captain Pat Cummins ended the debate around it by explaining it.
His finger is so hot he'll put it in a cup of ice – Pat Cummins on Travis Head's 'hole' celebration
Pat Cummins said it was Travis Head's holiday where his finger was hot and he put it in a cup of ice. He explained after that batsman took wickets in one of the games and went straight to grab an ice bucket to put his finger in it to taunt Nathan Lyon. Addressing reporters, he explained:
“Oh, sorry! Yeah, okay! I can explain that. His finger is so hot, he'll put it in a cup of ice. Yeah, that's it. Normally that's the joke. The Gabba or somewhere, where he got his too and got straight to the fridge, got an ice bucket and walked in front of Lyon (Nathan Lyon). That, he thought was really funny. So that would be it, nothing else.”
