Indian national cricket team captain Rohit Sharma spoke about the loss his side faced in the fourth Test of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He said they wanted to fight but were disappointed with the way the match ended.
The Indian national cricket team suffered a disappointing 184-run defeat in the fourth Test of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. It was a horrible effort from the visitors, especially with the bat, as they had every opportunity to save the match and even go for the win.

Apart from Jasprit Bumrah, the bowlers had a tough outing with the ball as Australia posted a massive total of 474 runs. With the bat, India were poor as only Yashasvi Jaiswal (84), Nitish Kumar Reddy (114) and Washington Sundar (50) batted well as the Rohit Sharma-led side posted 369, giving them a 105-run lead in the first innings.
India were magnificent with the ball in the second innings initially as they left Australia reeling at 91/6. But after that order, the contributions took the Pat Cummins-led side to a total of 234 runs, setting a massive total of 340 runs on the board.
India had a dreadful outing in the chase as apart from Yashasvi Jaiswal (84) and Rishabh Pant (30), no batsman could cross the 10-run mark, which is saying a lot. Even though India had a wicketless session after lunch, they went on to lose the game by a massive margin.

Rohit Sharma admitted that the result was disappointing for them but maintained that they went with the intention of winning and fought till the end. The captain also said that they had their chances but didn't take them. He also spoke about the situation when they reduced Australia to 91/6. Speaking after the match, he explained:
“It's quite disappointing. It's not like we went in with the intention of giving up the fight. We wanted to fight until the end and unfortunately we didn't. It's going to be hard to judge just the last two If you look at the overall match , we had our chances but didn't take them Australia 90 for 6.
“We know things can get tough but we want to play tough cricket from tough situations. I don't want to look at one situation. We weren't good enough. I went back to my room and thought what else we could have. done as a team but we threw everything we had but they fought hard, especially that last wicket partnership which probably cost us the game there,” said Rohit Sharma.

Rohit Sharma spoke about the cricket team played in the last few sessions and added that they failed to set the platform to chase down the target. The Indian captain also praised Nitish Kumar Reddy and Jasprit Bumrah for their efforts in the match. He explained:
“I knew the 340 wasn't going to be easy. We tried to lay a platform and keep the wickets in hand for the last two sessions but they too played perfectly. We wanted to go for the target but we didn't set the platform from our side There are ways to win games and we didn't find ways to win games (On NKR:) He is coming for the first time, these conditions can get very tough, but he showed great character, solid technique.
“He has everything to be successful at this level, I hope he will go from strength to strength and he has all the support of the team. On Bumrah:) Absolutely brilliant, I have followed him for many years now, He comes here and does his job. He is not a statistical person, he just wants to play for the country and do well for the team, but unfortunately he does not have much support from the other side. side,” concluded Rohit Sharma.
