2024 has been a fantastic year for goals in the Women's Super League (WSL) with some wild acrobatic volleys and spot-on long shots.
It therefore made perfect sense for 90 minutes to rank the top 10 strikes throughout this year, with a mix of goals from the back end of the 2023/24 season as well as the start of the 2024/25 season. Goals from teams at both ends of the table made the cut, with almost too many options to choose from.
Cornelia Kapocs' stunning strike against Tottenham, Vivianne Miedema's first goal back from injury and Hanna Bennison's rocket against Manchester City are just some of the goals to make the cutโฆ
It took until February but Everton recorded their first home win of the 2023/24 season with a 2-0 triumph over West Ham and Aurora Galli was at the heart of it all. She provided the assist for the opener before unleashing a tremendous strike for the second.
The Italy international broke into space on the right before cutting inside onto her left foot and firing a long shot into the far corner. West Ham goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold, rooted to the floor, had absolutely no chance.
Liverpool secured a narrow 3-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur in October and midfielder Marie Hobinger scored twice for the Merseyside club. The winner was a penalty in stoppage time, but it was her first of the match that was most impressive.
The Reds were awarded a free-kick in a dangerous position and Hobinger rose to fire an effort into the top corner. It was certainly a goal of the season contender.
The kick, the kick, the moment. Vivianne Miedema's goal against Liverpool at Prenton Park in January to put Arsenal there was everything ahead.
It was the Dutch international's first goal since her return from an ACL injury, and some shots it was. Emily Fox did well to fend off challenges from numerous Liverpool players before picking out Miedema in the middle of the park.
The striker unleashed an incredible curling effort from distance, and it was too high for goalkeeper Rachael Laws to make a contact, the dispute was at full stretch. The celebrations afterwards summed up how much it meant, and it was one of the highlights of the 2023/23 season.
Ella Toone's moment of pure magic helped Manchester United in a narrow 1-0 win over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium in April. There was little to separate the two sides until the latter stages of the game when the midfielder won it from the bench.
Some good build-up play in the middle of the park allowed former club captain Katie Zelem to find Toone in some space. The 25-year-old turned to open her body and hit a thunderbolt into the top corner from about 25 yards to clinch the win.
Arsenal start WSL collision with Chelsea in October it couldn't have gone much worse as they found themselves 2-0 down after 20 minutes. Mayra Ramirez and Sandy Baltimore had given the visitors a comfortable lead at the Emirates.
Caitlin Foord gave the Gunners a lifeline on the eve of the first half as she pulled one home from a difficult angle. Australia received the ball in space on the left and she was able to beat Lucy Bronze before squeezing a shot into the far corner.
Manchester City have enjoyed a strong start to the 2024/25 WSL season as they sit on Chelsea's heels in the title race. In October, they came from behind to beat Aston Villa 2-1 at home to keep their hopes alive.
Gabi Nunes had opened the scoring for the visitors early in the first half, but Lauren Hemp stepped up with a superb equalizer just after the hour mark. Leila Ouahabi's cross into the area didn't leave Villa and fell kindly to Hemp, whose first-time header deflected the ball wide of the goal.
With her back to the net, she lifted an overhead shot that Sabrina D'Angelo was unable to touch. Hemp then capped off a remarkable performance by assisting Jill Roord's winner.
The visit of Manchester City at the end of the 2023/24 season did not go as planned for Liverpool as they fell to a disappointing 4-1 defeat at Prenton Park. However, there were several contenders for Goal of the Season, notably Khadija Shaw's first-time strike to make it 2-0 at half-time.
This strike would probably have made this list if not for an even bigger goal from Liverpool's Taylor Hinds late in the game. The defender picked Chloe Kelly's pocket near the halfway line and she then raced into space before unleashing an effort from just over 25 yards out.
Hinds picked the top corner perfectly and City goalkeeper Khiara Keating, outstretched, was unable to get a hand on the ball as it burst into the back of the net. Although only a consolation for Liverpool, it was undoubtedly one of the strikes of the season.
Liverpool's summer signing Cornelia Kapocs also buried a wild strike in the Reds' narrow 3-2 win over Tottenham in October. The Swedish representative opened the scoring after 10 minutes of the match.
Becky Spencer's poor clearance landed at the Kapocs' feet and with the keeper off her line, she sent an incredible effort from more than 30 yards into the back of the net.
Everton were unable to find a win against Manchester City in March, but they did run the Manchester club incredibly close in a narrow 2-1 defeat. Shaw and Hemo had given the hosts a comfortable 2-0 lead, but Hanna Bennison's late strike put the pressure on.
The Sweden international was picked out by on-loan Kathrine Kuhl just outside the box and she was able to get past Jess Park before finding the top corner with a stunning strike from distance. The effort hit the crossbar before curling perfectly into the back of the net.
Although not a long-range goal, Johanna Rytting Kaneryd's finish for the first of her two goals in the 5-2 home win against Tottenham Hotspur in October was superb technique. The 27-year-old was picked out by Millie Bright's lofted cross and, on the volley, she picked out the far corner with pinpoint accuracy.
The Sweden international assisted the opening goal of the game for Chelsea, and then scored the last two goals in what was clearly a man of the match. The sublime flourish was, unsurprisingly, crowned Women's Super League goal of the month for October.
