The Indian team was in trouble when Pant returned to the field. All round Ravindra Jadeja and the wicket-keeper batsman Pant gave hope to the fans but Pant's careless selection showed responsibility to the team.

Gavaskar was participating in the commentary Harsha Bhogle when Pant was fired. The Indian legend lashed out at the powerful batsman and was furious with the way Pant gave away his wickets to the Australians.

Gavaskar expresses his anger at Pant's dismissal
After his rant went viral on social media and became a talking point, Gavaskar has now addressed the issue. According to Gavaskar, the main reason for his anger was the arrogant aim of Pant's shot.
“Honestly, this game made me. Indian cricket has made me. So when I see someone as talented as Rishabh Pant playing that shot and I didn't bother with the first shot he played. The reason I was angry was that selfishness took the next ball. I just got hit in the middle trying to shoot the same. I will show the bowler who is the boss. Practice cricket is not easy.” he said.
Gavaskar also said that if Pant's shot had been for 6, he would have appreciated the wicket-keeper's strike, but there is a fine line between carelessness and carelessness. According to Gavaskar, Pant crossed the line and gave away his wicket with the shot.
