Huge Mankad controversy erupts in BBL as Jamie Overton and Finn Allen engage in nasty fight


Adelaide Strikers and Perth Scorchers are currently facing each other in the 17th game of the Big Bash League 2024-25 (BBL 2024-25) at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide. Perth Scorchers won the toss and invited Adelaide Strikers to bat first in the BBL 14 clash on 31 December.

During Perth Scorchers' chase, Jamie Overton almost made history with a rare act in the Big Bash League as he attempted to attack Mankad Finn Allen at the Adelaide bowler's end. This incident took place in the 8th over of Perth Scorchers' match against Adelaide Strikers.

Jamie Overton almost beats Finn Allen in BBL 2024-25 clash

Before delivering the fifth ball of the 8th over, Jamie Overton almost hit Finn Allen at the bowler's end. While Allen left his crease too early when the Strikers were about to deliver the ball, Overton quickly turned to the non-striker end to dislodge the bails in the ongoing BBL 14 clash in Adelaide.

But instead of appealing, Jamie Overton issued a warning, handing Finn Allen a second chance in the ongoing BBL 2024-25 clash in Adelaide. Had Overton upheld the appeal, Allen would have been sent packing, adding an interesting chapter to BBL history. Jamie Overton and Allen also engaged in heated exchanges several times during the match.

When the incident happened, Finn Allen was hitting 38 points and could add another 12 points before he was taken out by Brendan Doggett. Allen top-scored for the Scorchers with 50 off 23 balls with four boundaries and three sixes against the Adelaide Strikers.

Perth Scorchers beat Adelaide Strikers by 7 wickets in BBL 2024-25 clash

Talking about the BBL 2024-25 clash, the Adelaide Strikers didn't get off to a great start as they were reduced to 58 for 8, but a resilient 84* partnership at the new wicket between Cameron John Boyce and Brendan Doggett pushed them to a competitive 142. /8 in the 20 overs against the Scorchers.

While young Aussie bowler Brendan Doggett played a stunning unbeaten knock of 47 off 39 balls with the help of five boundaries and two sixes, Aussie all-rounder Cameron John Boyce made 29* runs off 22 balls for the Strikers.

D'Arcy Short and captain Alex Ross contributed 22 and 20 points respectively to the Strikers' total in the BBL 2024-25 clash against the Scorchers. Jhye Richardson was the outstanding bowler for the Perth Scorchers with impressive figures of 3/29, while Jason Behrendorff and Lance Morris each claimed two wickets against the Strikers.

Finn Allen and Josh Connolly batted for Perth

Chasing the target, Perth's chase didn't get off to a good start either, losing two early wickets of Matty Hurst and Aaron Hardie – both dismissed for 2 runs by Henry Thornton. But Finn Allen and Josh Connolly turned things around with aggressive batting. Their positive approach got Perth back on track, and even after Allen's dismissal, Connolly continued the onslaught, playing an unbeaten knock of 48 runs from 35 balls, studded with three boundaries and two sixes.

Cooper Connolly added 84 with Allen and then an unbeaten 57 with his captain Ashton Turner, who made 35 in 18 balls with the help of two boundaries and two maximums as Perth Scorchers chased down the target in just 15 overs, beating Adelaide. Seven Wicket Strikers in BBL Match 2024-25.
