West Ham United striker Michail Antonio has been released from hospital just over three weeks after a horrific car crash in Epping Forest, Essex.
Antonio had to be airlifted to hospital in London after crashing into a treegetting stuck in the vehicle. He underwent surgery on his broken leg the next day.
The 34-year-old Jamaica international, who will not play again this season due to his injuries, spent Christmas in hospital but is considered well enough to continue his recovery at home.
West Ham have raised almost £60,000 to donate to NHS and Air Ambulance charities in recognition of the support Antonio received through the auction of match-worn shirts and matching funds.
A statement from the Hammers this week said: “Everyone at the club would like to reiterate their heartfelt thanks to the first responders, emergency services, air ambulance staff and the NHS for the outstanding support given to Michail in the wake of the accident.”
West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen dedicated the victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers two days after the accident to Antonio.
“It's special to see the West Ham family and the wider football community come together in support of Mic,” the winger has since said.
“We are all grateful for the care that the NHS and UK Air Ambulances have given Mic during a challenging time. I want to thank everyone who helped us raise an incredible amount of money for two great causes.”
