India Under-19 sensation Ayush Mhatre is in the headlines again as he smashed a world record in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. He became the youngest batsman ever to score 150 or more runs in a List A cricket match.
Ayush Mhatre achieved this milestone during the match between Mumbai and Nagaland played during Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25. During this innings, he also broke the record previously held by Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Ayush Mhatre creates a world record in the Vijay Hazare Trophy
At 17 years and 168 days, Ayush Mhatre is now the youngest player to score 150 runs or more in List A cricket. Mhatre smashed 181 off just 117 balls at a strike rate of 154.70. He hit 15 fours and 11 sixes during his knock.
It was an excellent knock from the India Under-19 opening side, who grabbed the headlines for sensational performances in the recent Under-19 Asia Cup, where India lost to Bangladesh in the final.
Earlier the record was held by Yashasvi Jaiswal who scored over 150 runs when his age was 17 years and 291 days. Jaiswal scored a terrific double hundred against Jharkhand in Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019.
The left-handed opener scored 203 off 154 balls with 17 fours and 12 sixes and helped Mumbai win the match. Both Mhatre and Jaiswal are from Mumbai and have shown immense batting potential.

Mumbai register a huge win
Meanwhile, it was a superlative performance from Mumbai as they bounced back from defeat in Punjab in the previous match. Nagaland chose to bat first on a good batting surface at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
Mumbai started brightly with openers Ayush Mhatre and Angkrish Raghuvanshi giving them a flying start. Raghuvanshi was dismissed for 56 off 66 balls but Mhatre kept going and kept playing his shots. The opener showed his class and stamped his authority in a magnificent innings full of fours and sixes.
There were no big contributions from the middle order but Prasad Pawar and Shardul Thakur ensured that Mumbai crossed the 400-run mark. Thakur smashed a fiery 73 from just 28 balls with 2 fours and 8 sixes to help Mumbai post 403-8 in 50 overs.
It was always going to be a tough ask for Nagaland and they were never in the game. Allrounder Jagadeesha Suchith smashed a brilliant hundred and finished with 104 off 97 balls with 7 fours and 4 sixes.
Shardul Thakur also shone with the ball with 3-17 in 5 overs. Royston Dias and Suryansh Shedge also took two wickets each for Mumbai. With this win, Mumbai are now third in their group with 3 wins and 2 losses.
