Canelo's team approaches William Scull for a May title fight

IBF super middleweight champion William Scull revealed today that he has been contacted by Canelo Alvarez's team for an undisputed title fight at 168 in Las Vegas in May.

If the fight against Cuban Scull (23-0, 9 KOs) goes ahead, WBA, WBC and WBO 168 lb champion Canelo (62-2-2, 39 KOs) would have a chance to become a two-time undisputed champion.

Canelo is calling

This probably won't make Terence Crawford happy as he was hoping to move up to 168 to challenge Canelo for his unique titles. However, that doesn't appear to be happening for Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs), and he will have to make other plans, such as fighting at 154 or retiring. Well, we don't always get what we want.

It doesn't look good for Crawford with his dreams of fighting Canelo, but he probably won't let him sit around and hope that match happens.

If he just stayed busy with frequent fights, he wouldn't have to work so hard for the golden parachute fight against Canelo. He would make a lot of money from his other fights. If Crawford moves up to 175, he could face David Benavidez and try to put himself in a position to cash in big by fighting undisputed light heavyweight champion Arturo Beterbiev. Crawford reportedly spars with light heavyweights all the time.

Scull, 32, recently won the vacant IBF title with a questionable 12-round unanimous decision victory over Vladimir Shishkin on October 19 at the Stadthalle, Falkensee, Germany. The score was 116-113, 116-112 and 115-113. Many boxing fans felt that Shishkin had done enough to deserve the victory.

Scull's Big Break

“William Scull confirms to the Cubanos Punos program that there is a rapprochement between his team and #Canelo's team for a possible unification showdown next May in Las Vegas. Scull adds that this January 10, there will be an official meeting of both teams to finally agree on everything. “Furthermore, the IBF super middleweight world champion clarifies that Berlanga existed as a possibility, as did Christian Mbilli, who was ruled out for financial reasons,” said Carlos Linares on X.
