Now in the final six months of his existing deal, Salah is free to discuss a contract with clubs overseas. The 32-year-old claimed in an interview with Sky Sports News that his focus is to win the title with Liverpool but admitted his desire stems from the fact his time with the Reds is coming to an end.
“In my interviews over the last seven or eight years, I always say (I want to win) the Champions League. But this is the first time I'm saying I really want to win the Premier League with Liverpool,” he began he.
Asked to explain why domestic success was now more important to him, Salah replied: “I have no idea. Maybe because we didn't celebrate what we won the way we wanted and also, coming back here, it's the last my year at the club, so you want to do something special for the city.”
The significance of Salah's comments was quickly highlighted after the Egyptian was asked if he truly believes this is his last year with Liverpool.
“So far, yes,” said Salah. “It is the last six months.
“There is no progress there. We are very far from any progress. So we just have to wait and see.
“The thing in my head is if this is the last six months, what do you want to see in the future? Do you want to look back and say I was worried or stressed about the contract? Or do you just want to say I had a season incredible. That's what I have in my head.
“If I ever feel distracted, I just remind myself that I want to look back and say I had an incredible season. That's what I want to do.”
