Former Indian national cricket team player Robin Uthappa has shared his view on whether or not Rohit Sharma has played the last Test of his career. He believes that the team captain will get a proper send off and will also play the next series for the team.
Rohit Sharma has come under massive scrutiny for his poor run in the last Test cricket. Since the start of the Test series against the Bangladesh national cricket team at home, the captain of the Indian national cricket team has failed to perform in all the games. Since then, he has managed to hit only one half-century.
Rohit Sharma's poor form with the bat continued even in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which is being dropped in the last match
Rohit Sharma's poor form has continued with the bat even in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. The captain of the Indian national cricket team failed to perform in the three games he played and that confidence also reflected in his leadership and he was not up to the task.
Rohit Sharma batted in the middle order for two games and that move didn't work, but after that, he was back at the top in the Melbourne Test. However, he still couldn't get going and eventually accepted the tough call and then decided to sit out the ongoing fifth Test, which is being held at the Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney.
Rohit Sharma spoke to the media on the second day of the ongoing match and said that he has quit the team. He admitted that he tried all things but things did not work in his favor and hence he decided to quit the ongoing game and handed over the leadership to Jasprit Bumrah.
Rohit is likely to get a dismissal there – Robin Uthappa
With Rohit Sharma missing the match, there has been a lot of speculation whether the fast bowler has played his last Test or not. But Robin Uthappa believes that this will not be the last game for the captain as he is the World Cup winning captain. He emphasized that he would get a proper disposal. Speaking in a video shared on his Instagram handle, he explained:
“People thought or speculated, 'Is this going to be his last Test match?' Will he not play Test cricket again?” In my opinion, I don't think it's six months before the next Test series, Rohit is probably a World Cup winning captain.
Yes, he had a very poor year in Test cricket, but he was a consistent performer – Robin Uthappa on Rohit Sharma
Robin Uthappa added that people look at the negative side of everything. He admitted that although the batsman is having a tough time, he has been a consistent performer for the team in other formats as well. He elaborated:
“With the intensities and losses of this tournament, people look at it in a negative light. Yes, he has had a very poor year in Test cricket, but he has been a consistent performer in other formats of the game and I think the legends of the game deserve a decent send-off.”
Rohit managed just 31 runs in the ongoing series at an average of around 6 in the series.
