The Australian National Cricket Team finally got their hands on the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as they defeated the Indian National Cricket Team by 6 wickets in the fifth match of the series. They were impressive with bat and ball at the Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney, where the last match was held, and booked their place in the ICC WTC final.
Victory in the final match of the 2024–25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy meant that the Australian National Cricket Team won the series 3–1. The Pat Cummins-led side outclassed the Indian National Cricket Team on most occasions in the series and won the Trophy for the first time since 2014-15.
Australia lost the first match of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Perth
Australia's national cricket team didn't get off to a great start to the series as they lost their opening match at the Optus Stadium in Perth by a massive margin. However, they made a strong comeback in Adelaide after that and won the match by 10 wickets. The third match ended in a draw before the home team brought their best.
The Pat Cummins-led side were right at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, where they took command of the series, winning the match by 184 runs. Then it was the final clash in Sydney where they won sensationally by 6 wickets to claim the series.
India opted to bat first and in difficult batting conditions they took it all out for just 185 runs. Rishabh Pant (40) was the leading run-getter for the team while the late blitz from captain Jasprit Bumrah (22) ensured they got a fighting total on the board.
With the ball, India were at their best as they bowled with great lines and lengths and troubled the Australian national cricket team's batsmen right from the start. The likes of Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah and Nitish Kumar Reddy were among the wickets as they bundled out the hosts for 181, taking a 4-run lead.

In the second innings, India put in a positive effort with the bat as they looked to score runs. Yashasvi Jaiswal (22) and KL Rahul (13) gave the team a solid start but after that, they lost wickets quickly and came under pressure. However, it was Rishabh Pant who bailed the team out of trouble.
The wicketkeeper-batsman slammed a brutal half-century and ended the innings with a quick-fire 63 runs. However, apart from him, no other batsman could start as the Australian National Cricket Team bundled India out for just 157 runs, setting a target of 162 runs to chase.
India were without Jasprit Bumrah in the second innings and it certainly cost them. Australia got off to a solid start in the chase with Sam Konstas (22) and Usman Khawaja (41) adding 39 runs for the opening partnership.
India made a slight comeback with quick wickets but Travis Head (34*) and Beau Webster (39*) combined and took their team home to win the game by six wickets and win the series by 3 -1.
As Beau Webster went on to win, the Australian dressing room was in tatters. The likes of Steve Smith, Pat Cummins, Marnus Labuschagne and other players were overjoyed as they celebrated aggressively.
