Barcelona captain Ronald Araujo has revealed that the uncertainty surrounding the futures of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor has “worried” him and his team-mates.
The Catalan giants were only able to sign Olmon and Victor for the first six months of the season as a stopgap measure following a long-term injury to Andreas Christensen. This expired on December 31st. Barcelona failed to prove it had received the funds needed to make room in the budget for players' wages before the end of 2024 and so the pair were removed from the official La Liga database.
Despite presenting themselves as eternally optimistic that a resolution would be found, La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) rejected Barcelona's request to re-register the couple. Although revenue from a VIP seat deal was belatedly confirmed by the authorities, this assurance was only given after the December 31 deadline. Once a player's registration has expired, he cannot re-register with the same club in a single season.
Olmo and Victor were not part of BarcelonaThe side faced fourth-tier Barbastro on Saturday night, but Araujo returned to make his first appearance of the season after recovering from injury. The captain was predictably asked about the pair after the 4-0 win.
“We are a little worried because they are two very important players for us,” said Araujo Movistar+. It's a topic that is in bad taste for our teammates, but hopefully it can be resolved.”
The captain added: “As captain I have tried to calm them down.”
there is elm remained publicly undisturbed from the chaos surrounding his future. The Euro 2024 winner inserted a clause in his contract when he signed for Barcelona in the summer allowing him to become a free agent if that option arose.
However, Olmos' agent has always insisted that his client has no intention of leaving Barcelona despite widespread interest from a plethora of Premier League clubs.
Barcelona has not lost hope to keep Olmo and Victor. The La Liga giants have one the ultimate trick in their attempt to connect with the duo, taking the above case League and RFEF for the Spanish government. The Supreme Sports Council (CSD) will hear Barcelona's appeal on Tuesday, January 7, although there could be a significant delay before a final decision is reached.
