Steve Smith blames SCG pitch for missing 10,000 Test benchmark in BGT


Australian national cricket team batsman Steve Smith has spoken about his failure to reach 10,000 runs in Test cricket during the final match of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He said it was okay not to get the milestone, but he was happy that they won the match at the Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney.

Steve Smith has spoken out about the sacking, saying it was chainsawed. He said it was a bad ball as he felt it had a good chance of going through the point. He also spoke about falling short of 10,000 runs and while speaking to Triple M explained:

“I made myself a chainsaw, didn't I! Pretty ugly delivery actually – long back. I thought, “Oh, there's one to get through the point,” and it just took off. It wasn't to be (reaching 10k). Tests), but that's okay – I got the result I was after.

“Absolutely (toughest SCG pitch I've played on). By a mile. It was in two steps, up and down, stitches all over and swinging. I have never played on a wicket like this at the SCG before. . It was incredibly hard to beat.”

Steve Smith added that it was a fun series to be a part of. He spoke about the challenges in the series and credited Jasprit Bumrah for troubling them, adding that they were lucky to get the result in the end. He elaborated:

“I love the game; it was a fun series. India are an incredible team. There were some great challenges, especially Bumrah. It was a lot of fun and we were lucky to get the result in the end.”

Australia national cricket team has won the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy after 10 years. They won the series 3-1 and also qualified for the final of the ICC World Test Championship.
