Liverpool are looking for a second win over Tottenham Hotspur in the space of just a few weeks when they visit north London on Wednesday in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final.
The Reds triumphed strongly in their last visit, beating an injured and damaged Spurs side 6-3 in the Premier League. A three-goal cushion at the end of Wednesday's encounter would all but secure Liverpool's place at Wembley.
Spurs have been weakened by fitness problems in recent months and Liverpool will be keen to take full advantage of their ailments in midweek. Arne Slot has almost a fully healthy squad after the weekend's draw with Manchester United, even if he could rotate his squad in the capital.
Here they are Liverpool players missing from the clash with Tottenham.
Ibrahima Konate's return from injury was celebrated at the weekend, with the French defender returning against Man Utd after five weeks in the treatment room. However, he has swapped places with Joe Gomez, who now finds himself on the sidelines.
The versatile Gomez had replaced Konate in the starting line-up during his absence but picked up a hamstring injury in the 5-0 win over West Ham United in Liverpool's final game of 2024. Slott has confirmed he will be out for “a few weeks,” meaning he's unlikely to return until late January.
There are no injury problems for Dominik Szoboszlai, who scored and produced a superb performance in last month's win over Spurs, but the Hungarian is currently struggling with illness. He missed the weekend's tie with Man Utd as a result and his brilliance was sorely missed.
Slot has not ruled Szoboszlai out of contention for Wednesday's game, but has cautioned against a possible return for the Tottenham game.
“Yesterday (Monday) he wasn't in (practice) yet. If he is today, I would doubt if he's available to start the game. But I hope he is today. Yesterday he wasn't,” Slot revealed.
