The Crown Prosecution Service is reviewing evidence files related to a Premier League footballer who was arrested on suspicion of rape.
The man, in his 30s, is accused of sexual offenses between 2021 and 2023. The Metropolitan Police have now sent their file to the CPS and the player is under investigation while the investigation continues.
The football player denies the accusations.
A spokesman for the force said: “Officers are investigating following a number of reports of alleged sexual offenses between 2021 and 2023.
“The full file has been passed to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and detectives are continuing to work with prosecutors.
“Those who have come forward to the police continue to receive support from Met officers.”
The player, who has not been named, was first arrested in July 2022 on allegations of rape by a woman in her 20s.
While in custody, he was further arrested in connection with the alleged rape of another woman in April 2021 and June of that year.
The Metropolitan Police said it would take no further action in relation to the alleged incident in June 2021 as the relevant laws had not come into force at the time.
In February 2023, police interviewed a man under caution for an alleged sexual offense alleged to have taken place in Barnet, north London, in February 2022.
This relates to the third complainant and was reported in July 2022, police said.
Officers interviewed the Premier League footballer again under caution in November 2024.
The CPS will now decide how to proceed, based on a file of evidence provided by the Metropolitan Police. It is not known when the decision will be made.
