Manchester United winger Amad Diallo has agreed a new long-term contract with the club, according to multiple reports.
Amad has been a shining light in an otherwise difficult season for United, grabbing a chance introduced to him by former caretaker boss Ruud van Nistelrooy and continues to thrive under Ruben Amorim.
The 22-year-old Ivorian was out of contract at the end of this season, although the club retained an option to extend his deal for a further 12 months.
But instead of activating the option, United have skipped straight into a new contract. ESPN reports that terms have been agreed for a five-and-a-half-year deal that will run until 2030.
Fabrizio Romano adds that the documents will be signed on Thursday and that Amad, who has the right to talk to other teams from January 1, turned down “the two main clubs” to stay at Old Trafford. This time there is no option for a contract year.
If he stays for the duration of the contract, Amad will be past his peak years united the colors. He will be 11 days away from his 28th birthday when it expires and will have been at the club for a decade overall, having joined from Atalanta as an unknown teenager in October 2020.
The player has taken some time to make his mark, first making his first-team debut under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in February 2021 and scoring his first goal the following month. Loan spells at Rangers and Sunderland followed, the latter particularly successful, but a pre-season injury hampered his progress in Manchester in the first half of 2023/24.
Amad made his way into the team under Erik ten Hag at the end of last season and was one bright performer in this season's Community Shieldbut he again fell out of favor and only really hit his stride again since the Dutchman's departure
Amad has 13 goals and assists so far this season, with most since the start of November. He has started all but one of United's last ten Premier League games and scored the equalizer that secured a priceless point against Liverpool last time out.
