Eintracht Frankfurt have been informed that Manchester City now want to sign Omar Marmouche immediately.
The German club is asking around 67 million pounds (80 million euros) for the 25-year-old.
There is no release clause for the striker, and the Bundesliga club are expected to reject bids well below them, who are third in the German top flight.
City and Marmoush's camp believe that the transfer price of 42 million pounds to 50 million pounds (50 to 60 million euros) is more realistic.
There were no negotiations between the clubs.
Marmoush, who can operate across the front three, has scored 13 goals in the Bundesliga so far this season, with only Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane scoring more.
He has scored 18 goals in all competitions this campaign and is second only to the Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah for goals in the top five European leagues this season.
City are closing in on Palmeiras over a deal for Vitor Reis
meanwhile, Manchester City have approached Palmeiras about a deal for Victor Reis.
Interest is at an early stage, but City are keen to sign the talented 18-year-old centre-back, who has a contract with the Brazilian club until 2028.
The defender made 22 appearances for Palmeiras last season and scored two goals.
He also captained the Brazilian U17 team at the 2023 U17 World Cup.
Reis 'not ready for the Premier League yet'
South American football expert Tim Vickery speaking to Sky Sports News Transfer Talk about Vitor Reis:
“Palmeiras are in the Club World Cup and they are very keen to keep this centre-back, who turns 19 next week.
“I don't think he's even close to being ready for the Premier League at the moment. He's classy, but he needs to fill out physically.
“Palmeiras have given a lot of good players recently – mostly strikers.
“If you put him in the Premier League right now, he would be really bullied. So maybe it's in everyone's best interest to stay a little longer in Brazilian football.
“But Palmeiras are reluctant to sell before that Club World Cup.”
