Former Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik named Australia's star pacer and skipper Pat Cummins as the best captain in the world right now, overlooking Rohit Sharma's achievements as India's captain.
Rohit led India to a historic victory in the T20 World Cup in June 2024, while Cummins' leadership was absolutely outstanding. Since taking over as Australia's captain in 2021, Pat Cummins has led Australia to the ICC World Test Championship and ODI World Cup titles in 2023.
In addition to his accolades, Cummins also led Australia in their first Test series India won after a decade. The Australian cricket team registered a 3-1 victory in the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 despite a rocky start with a heavy 295-run loss in the first Test to win the prestigious trophy after more than a decade.

Highlighting Cummins' leadership qualities, Karthik was amazed at the way the Australian captain handles the media and handles both pre and post-match. The former Indian wicketkeeper said that Cummins had that aura and leadership quality in his blood and by the way he conducts himself both on and off the field, he deserves applause and respect.
Former Indian cricketer-turned-commentator Karthik noted that Cummins exemplifies what the perfect leader should be and is currently the best captain in international cricket, saying he has the ability to lead a group of men.
Pat Cummins is the most aggressive cricketer now: Dinesh Karthik
Dinesh Karthik said in the latest episode of HeyCB with DK on Cricbuzz, “I feel Pat Cummins is the most aggressive cricketer on the planet right now. And he doesn't do it by talking or abusing. He does it with his body language, the way he deals with the media, after matches and before matches. He has the ability in him to lead a group of people and for me, he is the number one captain in the world at the moment.”
However, Cummins is likely to miss the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which starts on February 19 in Pakistan. The Australian pacer is scheduled for scans on his sore ankle and the results will decide whether he can take part in the eight-nation tour. Notably, the Champions Trophy returns after a seven-year hiatus.
