Fallon Sherrock failed to earn a PDC Tour Card at the Q-School in Milton Keynes on Friday, losing in the final of 32 stages, but remains in the mix.
The 30-year-old sits 19th on the Order of Merit at the halfway stage heading into the weekend, with two points and a strong leg lead of 12.
Other recognizable names such as Mervyn King, Simon Whitlock and Beau Greaves need big performances over the last two days to have any chance, however, while Scotland's former World Cup winner John Henderson is well placed in third place on the Order of Merit and has all but secured Tour Card.
On Friday, Kai Gotthardt and Justin Hood were the latest players to secure their PDC Tour Cards.
On the second day of the final stage at the European Qualifying School, Gotthardt secured his first Tour Card, following an impressive debut at the World Darts Championship last month.
The German earned his place on the professional circuit with a decisive match win over compatriot Steven Noster in Friday's decider in Kalkar.
Hood, meanwhile, won his final match against Bradley Brooks at the UK Qualifying School to confirm his status as a tour title holder for the first time in his career.
Brooks went down 6-5 to Tom Bissell in Thursday's final and history repeated itself at Arena MK as Hood fired 14 darts to defy a late fightback from the former World Youth Champion.
Sherrock lost 6-2 to Daniel Perry in the last 32, having earlier beaten Keenan Thomas 6-3 and Rhys Peris Davies 6-1, while Greaves fell at the first hurdle, 6-4 to Tavis Dudeney.
Whitlock also bowed out early after losing 6-4 to Mark McGeeney and Mervyn King exited in the final after losing 6-4 to Jamie Atkins.
Saturday will offer another chance for players to win Tour Cards, with play starting at 12pm in Milton Keynes.
In addition to the daily Tour Card winners, a further 21 Tour Cards will be awarded on a pro-rata basis to players from the respective Final Phase Orders of Merit after Day Four; 12 in Europe and nine in the UK.
Norway's Cor Dekker – who scored nine goals on the European Tour in 2024 – tops the European Order of Merit after seeing off the semi-finals on Thursday and reaching the quarter-finals 24 hours later.
Dutch duo Jimmy van Schie and Mark Kuivenhoven are second and fifth respectively on the Order of Merit, while Karel Sedlacek and Max Hopp are also in provisional Tour Card positions.
Brooks looks set to receive a Tour Card after reaching back-to-back finals, with the 24-year-old boasting a four-point lead at the top of the UK Final Stage Order of Merit, with Aden Kirk in second.
