Manchester United want to win the FA Cup, Amorim said

Manchester United manager Ruben Amory says he wants to win the FA Cup in his first season at the club.

United face Arsenal on Sunday afternoon in a tough third round match, but the former Sporting manager insists the trophy is important to him and United.

He said: “I see what everyone else sees. It's an old race with a lot of history.

“I remember seeing a few finals, including when we won the Treble in 1999.

“We've won some trophies and we want to go on. At this stage, we have a tough game that we want to win and we want to improve our image and performance.

“We are in a difficult moment. We are progressing, We will try to beat the best team. We will pick the best team to win. We want the cup.”

Amorim confirmed that Altay Bayindir will start the scoring and play as strong a side as possible.

United held surprise rivals Manchester City at Wembley last season and won 13 trophies, one less than Arsenal.

Amorim would not be drawn on the immediate future of Marcus Rashford, who is keen to leave Old Trafford, but said he would like to continue the club's tradition of signing through the academy.

He said, “We need to improve recruitment; So when it comes to targeting players, they are sure to be able to cope with the demands.

“Also, we need to improve our academy. Young people who feel the club in the right way to have money to invest in the team.

“Our idea is always to keep the best players and build for this club, but I'm really happy and I like our players, especially the boys from the academy.”

United last met Arsenal in the 2019 Cup with Jesse Lingard on target as they won 3-1 at the Emirates.
