'No complacency' – Virgil van Dijk has promised Liverpool fans a merciless approach to their FA Cup clash with Accrington Stanley.

Liverpool will approach their FA Cup tie against Accrington Stanley without complacency, says captain van Dijk.

They are set to play their third game in a week after a 2-2 draw with Manchester United and a 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.

Despite the recent run of form, Van Dijk expressed his excitement about their FA Cup start.

He also emphasized the importance of the competition, saying of his official match day programme: “The FA Cup is a competition that means a lot to the players and the fans.

“I have so many memories. We've had wins before and we want to go as far as we can this season.

“In my opinion, one of the big strengths of English football is the quality of teams at the bottom of the league pyramid.

“Most of the focus is on the Premier League; But the standard of football in the Championship and League 1 and 2 is also very good.

“You see the FA Cup is famous for its big murder stories over the years. Many of the top teams are coming back against unlikely teams. We need to be fully focused on making sure our name is not added to that list on Saturday.

“I can assure you all that they will happen. The spirit of this team is great and it's one of the reasons we've had such a good start to the season.

“We cannot allow complacency to set in. Accrington Stanley deserve our full respect; That is exactly what they will get.

“We are all looking forward to this game and we are all the same. It was fantastic to see almost 6,000 of you at Tottenham and I know you will give us fantastic support when we take on another competition.”
