Caroline Dubois knows exactly what she wants for her birthday on Saturday.
In his first world title defense, WBC lightweight champion Dubois takes on Jessica Camaro, live on Sky Sportsand she wants to not only beat the Canadian, but to win by knockout.
An inside-the-distance finish is what they will be aiming for in their clash at the Canon Medical Arena in Sheffield.
“It's my birthday so it's a nice little present for me,” said Dubois, who turns 24 today (Jan. 11). Sky Sports.
“She's game. She's going to try. She's going to come, give it her all. She's going to throw everything at me. But I'm going to be able to take it and give it back.”
Dubois puts his world title belt on the line on the same bill which sees an exciting clash between British and Commonwealth super-middleweight champions Callum Simpson and Steed Woodall
Camara, a seasoned professional, warned Dubois. “She's looking past me. She's looking far past me,” the Canadian said Sky Sports. “Honestly, I have more experience in the pros and I feel like I'm more mature. She's immature. She doesn't see the task at hand. She doesn't really look at it.
“That's a big mistake. She'll see.”
The Canadian is confident she can turn Dubois around when they fight. “I believe in myself. I've put in the work. I've had a good but tough career. I've taken on a lot of challenges and I feel like I have what it takes to beat Caroline,” Camara said.
“She's a great fighter. I respect her a lot, but she's not superhuman. She's beatable and I believe I can do it.
“I believe that I have what it takes to adapt in the fight and get out of the accident.
“I'm confident in my abilities. I'm confident in my skill. I feel strong. I believe in myself.”
Kamara's record is spotted with four career losses, but she has notable victories, including a win over Hyun Mi Choi, a former world champion, in Korea last year.
Dubois, however, dismissed it.
“It's fine. I've never judged Choi. I feel like a lot of people know what Choi is, she's so inactive. She hasn't fought in a year. She's been chasing other things and her mind has been all over the place,” the Briton said.
“Jessica had the opportunity to do that. I'm sure Choi underestimated Jessica.
“It doesn't mean anything to me because, in my opinion, I would have stopped Choi.
“All I know is – I'm going to give her everything I've got, and we'll see. I know I'm going to win this fight. It's just a matter of how I'm going to do it.”
'This shows I'm serious'
Opening of the live broadcast, which starts at 7:30 p.m Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports+will be Sam Hickey.
A star amateur boxer from Scotland, Hickey is entering only his second professional fight.
But he is already fighting an ambitious opponent. Hickey will box Lewis Howells. A Welsh international himself as an amateur, Howells has lost once as a professional, but that was against a good unbeaten fighter in Kyran Jones.
Hickey accepts the challenge. “That says I'm really serious about the sport, doesn't it? Not many boxers do that in their second fight,” said the middleweight Sky Sports.
“Obviously I come from a good amateur pedigree, but that just shows what I'm about. I'm looking to fight guys who are coming for the win and I think that will come in handy.
“The guy's a decent enough level, but if he's going to win, he'll be walking the shots rather than the guy on his bike.”
Hickey was an impressive British boxer, who won a bronze medal at the European Championships and gold at the Commonwealth Games. His elimination from the Olympics prevented Hickey from competing for Paris 2024.
The Scot plans to defeat Howells and pursue further opportunities as a professional.
“Every fighter is dangerous,” Hickey said. “I don't want to mess around. I'm here. It's a job. I need to put on a good performance and get people talking about me.
“Where I want to go in boxing – I have to beat guys like this. It's good to test yourself against someone like this so early in your career.
“There will be a lot of people watching, hopefully a lot of Scots. I'm looking forward to it.”
