Sydney Sixers batsman Steve Smith produced a magical effort with the bat in the ongoing match against Perth Scorchers in the 2024-25 Big Bash League (BBL). The match between the two teams takes place at the Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney.
Steve Smith, who was playing his first game in the 2024-25 Big Bash League, made sure he made an immediate impact with the bat and was on fire. The right-hander was at his best and played one of his best innings in the league.
Steve Smith started very slowly in his innings, attacked the bowlers after being set
Smith started the innings very slowly, but once he set his sights on it, he made sure to hit the bowlers all over the park. The opening batsman oozed class with the bat and hardly put a foot wrong in his innings once he was settled after a shaky start.
Smith first hit a sensational half-century and then made sure to put the pedal to the accelerator. The batsman hit a glorious century but also had his nervy moments along the way, especially when he was in his 90s and was keen to get to his century.
Smith, when he was 95, tried to reach his century in style. Jhye Richardson bowled a full toss outside off which the batter scrambled to a long off and bowled over the midwicket. It looked like the ball would go for a six and the batsman would reach his century in style.
But Sam Fanning, who was deep, came up with the stunning effort. He jumped to the right and the momentum carried him over the rope. However, he displayed magnificent composure and threw it back into the game to save four runs in the process.
