Lucas Paqueta gave West Ham an early lead, and Potter's side maintained that advantage until the final 20 minutes of the game. However, quick late goals from Amadou Onana and Morgan Rogers meant the English tactician opened the Hammers' account with defeat.
West Ham had just two shots on target all game, and there is clearly plenty to work on for Potter, who is in his first job since being sacked by Chelsea in April 2023.

Writing on his Patreon page (via West Ham Road), the 27-year-old winger is believed to be considered a serious option by the Irons' recruitment team – even if a transfer is unlikely in the current circumstances.
“Another homegrown player is being considered, although probably not a realistic option, and that is Marcus Rashford.” said the former.
“He has been told again that he can go on loan, and Milan appear to be leading the chase. There are a whole host of European giants eyeing the player, including Juventus and Dortmund.
“If none of these transfers work out, we could consider them if Manchester United paid a significant proportion of his salary, but at the moment, we believe such a transfer is unlikely.”
For a permanent deal, it is believed the Red Devils would like it 40 million pounds sterlingBut it appears that Rashford's salary could be a major stumbling block for West Ham and other interested parties in this regard.
However, if Rashford agrees to take a pay cut, as would likely be the case if he were to leave his boyhood club, there is clearly a quality player there when he is at his best.
“When you have a smiling, confident and hard-working Marcus Rashford, he is a disruptive player and a game-changer.” said the TNT sports critic Rio Ferdinand During England's 2022 World Cup campaign in Qatar.
“If he gets one-on-one, he has the pace to get past you and the imagination, he can finish the game.”
