Having played so much football over the Christmas period and with a Premier League game to come on Wednesday, Eddie Howe will be tempted to change much of his starting line-up against Bromley. Fringe players like Lloyd Kelly, Miguel Almiron and William Osula could earn minutes.

Saudi Arabia-bound Martin Dubravka or Odysseas Vlachodimos will start between the sticks as Nick Pope is still sidelined, with the former potentially for the Middle East this month. Emil Krafth and Jamaal Lascelles are absent in defence.

Callum Wilson is still in the treatment room with a thigh problem and Howe has confirmed that Alexander Isak, who has scored 14 goals in his last 15 outings, will be left out in the afternoon.

Newcastle predicted formation against Bromley (4-3-3): Vlachodimos; Trippier, Schar, Kelly, Targett; Willock, Longstaff, Miley; Almiron, Osula, Barnes.

Newcastle are likely to field a second team for the visit of Bromley, but that should have little impact on their progress to the fourth round. With home advantage, bags of confidence and some talented peripheral figures aiming to prove a point, there should only be one winner on Sunday.

Bromley will fancy their chances of unnerving a much-changed Newcastle defense on occasion and clinical pages could be their source of some consolation. But Bromley are conceding more than a goal per game in League Two and are likely to be punished by Newcastle's fortunes.

Prediction: Newcastle 3-1 Bromley
