England struggle with the bat
Opting to bat first, England managed 204 in 43.1 overs, unable to deal with Australia's batting attack. The innings started on an uneventful note, and Maia Bouchier and Tammy Beaumont an early departure, leaving England at 61/2 by the 13th over. Knight held the innings together and made 39 off 48 balls, but his dismissal by Perry off Gardner's special strike changed the situation dramatically. Intermediate contributions from Amy Jones (31 out of 30) and Danni Wyatt-Hodge (38 from 52) added to the consistency, but frequent wickets prevented England from getting off to a good start. Gardner was a standout pitcher, claiming 3/19, with the help of Kim Garth and Annabelle Sutherland with two wickets each. The overs resulted in 25 valuable runs, showing the occasional blunder from Australia.
