“It is necessary to be fair to everyone”

India's head coach Gautam Gambhir left the decision on the captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's Test future rests solely in their hands after the conclusion of the 20204-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. The 43-year-old specialist said that two big hitters would meet the team's interests.

Like previous comments After their failure against New Zealand in the home TestsGambhir said the duo still have the hunger and passion to deliver for the Men in Blue.

India lost the fifth Test in Sydney against Australia by six wickets to lose the series Down Under 1-3. It was India's first series loss in Australia since the 2014–15 series.

Gambhir told reporters after the fifth Test (via Hindustan Times):

“I cannot talk about the future of any football player. It depends on them. But yes, I can say that they still have the hunger, the passion. They are tough people and hopefully they can continue to take Indian cricket forward. But ultimately, as we all know, whatever they plan, they will plan in the best interest of Indian cricket.

He added that no preferential treatment is offered to play if anyone has played more than 100 Tests.

“My job is to be honest with everyone. It's not like I just prefer a few players. But my job is to get every player on the same page, whether they are making their debut or playing 100 Test matches. It is necessary to be fair to everyone.”
