Troy Aikman spoke about the Cowboys' head coaching opening on Monday Night Football after the franchise opted to move on from Mike McCarthy, and his assessment was brutal. He suggested that Jerry Jones lacked a solid plan because they let the incumbent walk without interviewing the other candidates. Hall-of-Fame quarterback Kellen Moore said, naming some such as Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn.
“It suggests there's no real plan. The fact that they didn't have the opportunity to interview Ben Johnson and some of the others, Aaron Glenn. It makes sense to me that Kellen Moore was nominated. He's the guy. He's familiar with this building.
Troy Aikman He was also critical of whether the Cowboys vacancy is currently pending. He acknowledged the high-profile nature of the franchise, but said it might not be the most attractive opening for potential head coaches. He explained this by saying that most candidates might want to do it on their own terms, and that's hard to do in Dallas.

“As far as my dream job, I don't know for sure. I think the Cowboys are obviously a high-profile team and whoever the head coach is, of course, it's going to get a lot of attention, but I think most football people who are in the head coaching position do that. they want to do it on their own terms, and that's hard to do.”

Cowboys HOF Troy Aikman takes cue from Dan Campbell to make his point after Mike McCarthy's firing.
Troy Aikman then weighed in on the example of Dan Campbell, who had a lot of success as a head coach in Detroit. He said that he could not specify the same results in Dallas, noting that
“For example, if you take Dan Campbell, Dan Campbell (in Detroit) is Dan Campbell, if he's with the Dallas Cowboys. It's hard to imagine him being like that. It's hard to imagine that a lot of these coaches could be. I love him. I played for the Dallas Cowboys for 12 years, definitely. agree to that.”
It was a damning indictment of the current Cowboys from a man who did as much as anyone to make the franchise great.
