Ruben Amorim sets a new challenge to Alejandro Garnacho for the future of Man Utd

Ruben Amorim has admitted he wants to see improvements from Alejandro Garnacho if the Argentine is to return to Manchester United's starting line-up.

Garnacho was dropped from the matchday squad for the Manchester derby alongside Marcus Rashford last month but has responded well to the case behind the scenes and has come off the bench in each of United's last four Premier League games.

Uncertainty about his future has flared up interest from elsewhere, with Napoli thought to be keen on Garnacho as they look to replace PSG-bound Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

While Amorim made no secret of his admiration for Garnacho's ability, he suggested that the young winger must adapt to the demands of the new tactical structure being used at Old Trafford.

“He has talent,” Amorim said. “He has to learn to play in a different position. He needs to play better inside.

“He improves a lot in the rebounding position when he doesn't have the ball. But in doing that, sometimes he's not in the right place to make transitions like in the past. I prefer to defend and then build with the whole team for reached in the last third.

“He's finding the best way to play in this system. He's getting better in practice. He started the last game. Let's see tomorrow. I think he changed the way he sees himself.”

Reports suggest united would only receive offers of around £70m to part ways with Garnacho, whose contract runs until 2028.
