The Women Premier League (WPL) 2025the world's premier women's T20 cricket tournament, is expected to deliver another electrifying season.
The season will begin on February 14 with a big clash between the defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Gujarat Giants (GG). The inaugural match will be held at the newly constructed BCA Stadium in Vadodara, the start of the season promises to be a benchmark for women's cricket.
Allocation of WPL 2025 stadiums
For the first time in the history of the WPL, the tournament will be played in four venues – Vadodara, Bengaluru, Lucknow, and Mumbai – marking a significant expansion from the previous editions. Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed the much-anticipated schedule on January 16, covering 22 games in this third edition.
The Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 will be played in four prominent venues, each contributing to the schedule. Vadodara's prestigious Kotambi Stadium will be the venue for the inaugural event, hosting the first six matches, including the opener between Gujarat Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru on February 14. Bengaluru's famous M. Chinnaswamy Stadium will be the center stage. , hosting the next eight games—the most of the four designated arenas.
The session will also include key matches featuring defending champions RCB, promising some of the most intense contests at one of India's premier stadiums. Lucknow, which started as a venue for the WPL, has been allotted four group matches. This is a very important event in the history of the tournament, bringing top class women's cricket to the city for the first time. Finally, Mumbai will play a crucial role at the end of the tournament. The city will host two league matches and all knockout matches at the Cricket Club of India (CCI).
The playoff format is unchanged from last season. The team that finishes at the top of the league table will qualify for the finals. Meanwhile, the second and third teams will meet in the Eliminator on March 13, fighting for a place in the main draw expected on March 15. This structure ensures that each game is weighted, making the league very competitive.
Following the successful single-header format, WPL 2025 will see all 22 matches played as stand-alone events. This strategy ensures uninterrupted coverage of the game, maximizing the audience's attention in stadiums and on television.
