Arsenal aim to close the gap on Premier League leaders Liverpool this Saturday when they face Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners will need a favor from Brentford earlier in the day if they are to get close to Liverpool in the table, provided they avoid the slip against the Villans, of course. Arsenal have troubling memories of this exact match last season as Unai Emery's Villa dealt a fatal blow in the title race.
Arsenal can build on the confidence of Wednesday's win in the north London derby against Tottenham Hotspur, even if they were far from their best after securing bragging rights. Injuries continue to make Mikel Arteta's life more challenging and he will have to make his team's selection strike for seventh-placed Villa.
Here's how Arsenal may line up this weekend.
GK: David Raya – The Spaniard wasn't too busy in the north London derby but produced an impressive save to deny Dejan Kulusevski. He may be called into action more often on Saturday.
RB: Jurrien Timber – Timber is Arsenal's only right-back option and has been forced to play a lot of football over the past month. However, it has performed admirably despite the considerable workload.
CB: William Saliba – of Real Madrid target will be tasked with carrying Ollie Watkins on Saturday, who now has two goals and two assists in his last four outings. John Duran will try a similar punch off the bench.
CB: Gabriel – Gabriel produced a monumental performance against Tottenham and Arsenal need their Brazilian superstar more than ever considering their attacking struggles in recent weeks.
LB: Myles Lewis-Skelly – Lewis-Skelly has gained invaluable experience this season and produced an excellent performance against Tottenham. Having performed expertly against Spurs' tricky front line, he will be tested by Morgan Rogers and Leon Bailey this weekend.
CM: Martin Odegaard – Odegaard was much improved on Wednesday and helped Arsenal to victory, with the affable Norwegian producing a the characteristically creative and measured display in midfield.
CM: Thomas Partey – He will need to provide Arsenal's back line with considerable support against Villa, who are often lethal on the counter-attack. Mikel Merino is sniffing around his starting point.
CM: Declan Rice – Rice hasn't been able to replicate his stellar debut season performances for most of the season, but made a sure difference against Spurs. Villa's engine room is full of impressive options, including former Arsenal target Amadou Onana, and Rice will need to dominate the midfield battle.
RW: Leandro Trossard – Scored the winner against Spurs on Wednesday with a fierce strike, although Antonin Kinsky should have denied it. A confidence-boosting performance for the Belgian, who needs to step up in the middle of the attack INJURY.
ST: Kai Havertz – Havertz has come under fire in recent weeks for his promiscuity and he can have few complaints after some painful mistakes. However, he is guaranteed a starting position with Gabriel Jesus sidelined and always works tirelessly off the ball.
LW: Gabriel Martinelli – He was surprisingly left out of the lineup on Wednesday, but Raheem Sterling's disappointing derby performance will only ensure Martinelli's return. He should give Matty Cash a rough afternoon.
