Ascot Tips: Phlegmatic Wants Big Handicap Prize On Day Two Winter Million | Racing News

A trio of weekend winners return with an eye on a busy two days of racing, including a top quality card from Ascot.

Joining the host is Kate Tracey BetVictor's Sam Boswell and at the races Declan Rix to discuss what remains of the weekend's action after withdrawing from Kempton's Lanzarote Handicap meeting.

The team begins by looking at bet365 Handicap Chaseheld at Ascot at 2.15pm on Saturday – live Sky Sports Racing

Presenter Kate Tracey…

“This is a real contest. The line of form between Kotmask and Martator really interests me, but I will Kotmask. Hopefully he can double up on his success a month ago at Ascot over two miles and three furlongs. He's managed to work out his own way of doing things despite the usual few mistakes, so provided his jockey sits tight, they can still reveal decent form.

“On the same level as 130 last time out, over the distance he has improved slightly to achieve a well-deserved success. Here he faces his old nemesis Martator, who beat him on his reappearance and even further on Kotmask's penultimate He (Kotmask) obviously has enough to find, but when you look, they were running away from the level when you consider the jockey's claims on that occasion 15 pounds from Martator here, so I think he's going to reverse the form.”

In The Races' Declan Rix…

“This is a competitive race! I like it Phlegmatic and I wonder if that was the plan for this Dan Skelton-trained horse. He has run four times this year, jumping from the 16s to the 50s, and before that jumped from six to 15/2 at Ascot. He was also a decent tramp last time behind Victorino here, but there were signs of life on the day, and he goes down the handicap.

“It's a £100,000 race with £52,000 to the winner and I wonder – with Skelton's excellent trainers being a target – if this race is targeted. The trip downlist will suit him, he's run at Ascot nine times without a win but there's plenty good form. He runs 132, minus another three for Tristan Durrell I claim – well handicapped to come close close!”

BetVictor's Sam Boswell…

“I expect my selection to jump to an even higher price, but I'm going again Bad – which sometimes lives up to its name. We all know it can be a little tough going forward, but coming back this way will help.

“Going out on the trip will help and I think there's enough to go with him in terms of pace. My plan is to take him a few races and it's about the blinkers, which could lead to a little bit of improvement. You've got to have faith and he's good price both ways if nothing else.
