Apart from Rohit Sharma, young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and star all-rounder Shivam Dube will also enthrall the fans during the much-awaited Ranji Trophy 2024-25 match between Mumbai and Jammu and Kashmir at the MCA Cricket Ground.

Rohit Sharma is all set to return to the Ranji Trophy after 9 years

In fact, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) on Monday (January 20) announced the 17-member squad for their next Ranji match against Jammu and Kashmir in Mumbai. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has confirmed that Ajinkya Rahane will lead the star-studded Mumbai cricket team in the next round of the red ball competition in India.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma is all set to play under the captaincy of Ajinkya Rahane in the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy. It would be Hitman's first Ranji appearance in nine years. The Indian opener's last appearance in the Ranji Trophy was against Uttar Pradesh at the Wankhede Stadium in November 2015.

Well, apart from Rohit, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shivam Dube, Shardul Thakur and Shreyas Iyer have also been named in Mumbai's 17-member squad for their next Ranji match against Jammu and Kashmir. However, several familiar faces missed the cut.

Prithvi Shaw and Sarfaraz Khan ignored by MCA

Prithvi Shaw has again pulled out of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), while Sarfaraz Khan and his brother Musheer Khan failed to make the 17-member squad for their Ranji clash against Jammu and Kashmir at the MCA Cricket Ground.

The MCA said in an official press release, “The Mumbai Cricket Association Senior Selection Committee consisting of Mr. Sanjay Patil (Chairman), Mr. Ravi Thaker, Mr. Jeetendra Thackeray, Mr. Kiran Powar and Mr. Vikrant Yeligeti has selected following players to represent Mumbai in Ranji Trophy match against Jammu & Kashmir to be played from 23-26 January 2025 at MCA Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy, BKC, Mumbai.”

Here is the Mumbai squad for the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir:

Ajinkya Rahane (C), Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ayush Mhatre, Shreyas Iyer, Siddhesh Lad, Shivam Dube, Hardik Tamore (WK), Akash Anand (WK), Tanush Kotian, Shams Mulani, Himanshu Singh, Shardul Thakurs, Mohit Awathi , Sylvester Dsouza, Royston Dias, Karsh Kothari.

Notably, Rohit Sharma went through the toughest phase of his career as he scored just 31 runs in five innings in the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against Australia. Rohit's Test stats have raised doubts about his future in the Indian cricket team.

However, the Indian captain has done well in white-ball cricket in 2024, but his Test numbers are alarming, putting him under immense pressure. Notably, India appeared in just three ODIs in 2024 and Rohit amassed 157 runs while scoring 378 runs in 11 T20Is before retiring in June last year.

But the right-handed batsman could only manage 619 runs in 14 Tests in 2024. However, Rohit Sharma would now be hoping to regain his form in the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy.
