Earlier, after winning the toss, Sydney Sixers captain Moises Henriques revealed why he opted to bowl first in the 2024-25 Big Bash League qualifier against Hobart. The Australian all-rounder said at the toss, as quoted by Cricbuzz, “The wicket will remain pretty good. It will be who comes tonight and plays the best cricket. That's starting to be the trend in T20 cricket – to opt for the bowling – so you know what you're looking at.”
Moises Henriques further explained, “When you bowl first, it takes longer to lose the game. If you lose four quick wickets on a wicket you shouldn't have batted on, it's pretty easy to lose the game from there. It's a bit of a conservative mindset, perhaps, but it seems to work well.”
