Teofimo Lopez says Gervonta Davis needs “let go of your pride” for him to fight against him and other fighters. Lopez (21-1, 13 KOs) feels that Gervonta's ego prevents him from taking big fights against him and others in the sport.
Teo sounds like the in-demand star that Tank Davis is missing out on as he's been in a career freefall since his loss to George Kambosos Jr. 2021. Lopez's career is facing extinction after his recently signed three-fight contract with Turki Al-Sheikh expires in early 2026.
Teofimo is moving up to 147lb in October 2025 to take on IBF welterweight champion Jaron 'Boots' Ennis. After he likely loses, he will likely stay there to face the loser of a Devin Haney vs. Ryan Garcia 2 rematch in February 2026.
WBO light heavyweight champion Teofomo may be projecting his mistakes onto Tank (30-0, 28 KOs, as he made a mess of his career by saying no to fights against Subriel Matias and preventing fights against George Kambosos Jr. and Devin Haney from happening.
“You just have to let go of your pride and ego. Just play the job bro,” said Teofimo Lopez Fight Hub TV on whether Gervonta Davis can fight him and other fighters at 140. “You really want to fight us, that's how we can make it happen. We all want to fight each other.”
Tank's must-fight list
Ryan Garcia
Devin Haney
Vasilij Lomachenko
Teofimo and Shakur Stevenson are neither talented nor popular enough to make Gervonta's prestigious list of fighters who will have the chance to fight him. If Teo isn't washed up and ruined his career by switching fights, he could potentially fight Tank. It's too late now though.
Al-Sheikh's gamble with Lopez
- Richardson Hitchins: IBF and WBO welterweight unification bout, possible in April.
- Jaron 'Boots' Ennis: Fight in October
- Winner or loser of the Devin Haney vs. Ryan Garcia rematch. Teofimo will potentially fight one of them in February 2026.
