Marcus Rashford's representatives met with Barcelona leaders on Tuesday in Lisbon ahead of the Catalan club's match with Benfica.
As he discovered Sky Sports News last week, Barcelona is Rashford's preferred destination if he wants to leave Manchester United in this transfer window.
Barcelona would have to create enough salary cap space through departures to welcome the England international to the Nou Camp. The potential departures of Ansu Fati and Eric Garcia would help.
Barcelona sporting director Deco said: “We are dealing with the issue of (financial) fair play. In the last days, if the team can step up, we will try, but as of today there is nothing.
“The priority is the renewal of important players in the team, and then we could focus on one or two reinforcements, but that's not something the coach asked us to do either.”
Barcelona have not yet formally made a move for Rashford, while Borussia Dortmund approached United to inquire about loan terms for the player.
meanwhile, AC Milan shifted focus from forward to Kyle Walker last week.
United relaxed about the Rashford situation
Sky Sports News understands a deal for Rashford to leave Manchester United is looking increasingly difficult in this period.
Dortmund will continue to push, but finances remain a major issue as they would require United to contribute a significant percentage of his wages.
United are understood to have been relaxed about the situation.
The feeling is that Rashford has sparked talk of a move.
Head coach Ruben Amorim continues to leave him out of the matchday squad and has put the onus on the player to fight for a return.
Morrison: Rashford needs a new challenge
Clinton Morrison for Sky Sports News:
“The situation with Rashford is that he hasn't played football at Manchester United for years. He's been leaving him out of the team – Ruben Amorim says he's not involved at the moment, so there's a situation.
“If he does stay at Manchester United – I still think he has a lot to offer, but now is the time when Marcus Rashford needs a new challenge.
“I think he just needs a change. He's such a talented individual with a lot of ability. I just want to see the best of Marcus Rashford again.”
Man Utd discuss Milan deal for Dorga – Sky Italy
Manchester United's Director of Football Negotiations Matt Hargreaves was in Milan to discuss a move for Lecce Patrick Dorgu.
Sky Italy report United's current bid is £25.4m + £4.2m in add-ons (€30m + €5m) for the 20-year-old left-back.
Under those conditions, Lecce would prefer not to sell him in this transfer window.
United will continue to negotiate to try to find a breakthrough within what they consider to be responsible financial parameters.
