Tottenham star defends Ange Postecoglou and praises 'spectacular' teenage duo

Pedro Porro has dismissed suggestions that Ange Postecoglou is working too hard with injury-hit Tottenham players in training and revealed his admiration for the “spectacular” duo of Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall.

Spurs slipped to their 12th Premier League defeat of the season at the weekend, going down 3-2 to Everton after a fiery opening in the 45th minute, the visitors exploded and went into the half-time interval three goals behind.

Goals from Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison made it respectable for Spurs, but they sit 15th in the table Premier League table after a disastrous run of form that has coincided with ongoing injury problems.

Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Guglielmo Vicario, Dominic Solanke, Destiny Udogie, Yves Bissouma, Brennan Johnson, Timo Werner and Wilson Odobert all missed the trip to Merseyside, with most, if not all, likely to have been involved in Spurs. The matchday squad was fit.

There have been suggestions that Postecoglou was subduing the fire, whose job is safe for nowperhaps it's his methods on the training ground to blame, but Porro has come to his coach's defense stating that each player has their own recovery regime and that their workload is well managed and looked after.

“We have a plan for all of our training,” Porro said soccer.london. “Those players who don't play as much have their own plan to come back and so do I, I train at the club but I also do my work outside the club, recovery work, injury prevention.

“Everyone has their schedule, if the training sessions are less intense, it is for those players who come back, they have the training they need, and also for the players who play, we need a lot of recovery.”

SpursThe catalog of injuries has seen Gray and Bergvall exposed to more first-team football than they might have expected to play at this point in their careers, but both have been hugely impressive despite results not going the club's way .

Their form has caught the eye of Porro, a €40m signing in January 2023, who while praising the pair suggested he was not entirely surprised by how good they had been.

“When you have injuries and you sign young players who are probably for the future, then you sign them for the future, but you also have options if you get injured,” said the Spaniard. “Lucas, Archie and others have done very well, but that's why the club brought them in. They have had their chance and it is up to them to take it.

“They are doing a spectacular job for the club and if we have a bad moment and they are suffering like we all are at the moment then that will make them great players in the future because they are giving everything out there . for the team”.
