Nabil Anane scored three knockouts in quick succession to stop Scottish powerhouse Nico Carrillo and claim an interim bantamweight muay thai title in Thailand.
Fighting in front of a sold-out Impact Arena in Bangkok on Friday, the 20-year-old faced one of his toughest challenges to date.
Carrillo entered the match on a 15-game winning streak, including four knockouts against elite competition in one championship.
However, Anane dictated the pace in the opening moments, using his reach to perfection and overwhelming Carrillo with strikes before dropping him with a massive right hand.
Carrillo was then next and again took a blow to the head later and although the Scot got back to his feet, the agony of the blow sealed his fate, knocking him down for the third and final time with just 25 seconds left in the first round.
With the technical betout victory, Anane extended his winning streak to six, improved his record to 39-5, and earned a $50,000 (40,049) performance bonus from one chairman and CEO chari sityodtong.
He also secured a title unification against Superlek Kiatmoo9 – the only man to beat him in a single championship – at one 172 in Japan on 23 March.
Haggerty shows heart in a tough fight with Estupinan
England's Freddie Haggerty battled hard during his 170, with unbeaten Colombian promotion newcomer Jordan Estupinan, but could not weather the storm.
The 20-year-old Brit, who moved up a weight class after moving up in one training leg, looked to dictate the pace early against the unpredictable Colombian, who frequently switched stances and landed sharp shots to keep him at bay.
However, just as Haggerty showed intensity in the second round, Estupinan countered with a powerful right hand that sent him to the canvas.
The Londoner showed resilience even though he won eight times, but later he was favorable moments later with an identical shot.
Haggerty pushed forward in the final stanza, targeting the body with crisp combinations before going upstairs to the head, but the Colombian eventually wore down the storm.
After three hard rounds, the judges awarded Estupinan a unanimous decision victory.
What is a championship?
Considered to be the largest martial arts platform on the planet, the single championship events feature various disciplines, such as mixed martial arts, kickboxing, Muay Thai and more, with world titles in each of their different sports.
One founder and CEO Chari Sityodtong explained, “The way we think of ourselves, apart from the house of martial arts, is it the Olympics of martial arts.
“In the Olympics, you have multiple disciplines, multiple sports, and the whole world stops watching the best of the best compete. There's no difference. We have the best of the best martial arts on the planet.”
