George Kambosos Jr will headline on March 22nd against an opponent yet to be determined in Sydney, Australia. This will be the first fight in Eddie Hearn's Matchroom Boxing for former unified lightweight champion Kambosos Jr. (21-3, 10 KOs). Skye Nicolson will be on the card.
Hearn did not reveal his plans for Kambosos. He had wanted to schedule a fight between Kambosos and former IBF light heavyweight champion Liam Parr in Australia, but after Parr's loss to Richardson Hitchins last December, that scuppered his plans.
Kambosos needs a win
Hearn also promotes Hitchins, but the fight between him and Kambosos would not be big. It's not the best use of Kambosos to feed him to Hitchins and watch him get beaten. Hearn will likely focus on getting a bigger fight for Kambosos Jr. against someone like Teofimo Lopez, Devin Haney or Ryan Garcia.
Kambosos has probably lost every fight in the last four years since his blowout win over Teofimo Lopez on November 27, 2021. He had one questionable win against Maxi Hughes on July 22, 2023. Many boxing fans saw it as a loss for Kambosos, as Hughes dominated throughout the fight.

“I think Hitchins is a good fighter. I think he needs me, but I want him because I see holes,” George Kambosos Jr. said. Stomping Ground when asked why he wants to fight IBF welterweight champion Richardson Hitchins so much.
“I think he's at 140 with what I can bring to the table with his basic style. He is very simple. He's good at the basics. He's got a good jab, a good left hand, a good right hand, but at 140, I think I can overpower him,” Kambosos continued of Hitchins.
“(Liam) Paro did a really good job in the first couple of rounds but he got away. I think Paro was taken aback by another possible mega-fight with my name. I see things in that fight. I love New York. It's a good stomping ground for me and I like to be, but obviously not a favorite. I'm an outsider.”
The fall of the emperor

Hitchins really needs Kambosos for a paycheck and to get more attention in his career. However, in terms of opposition, Kambosos is a big step back for Richardson. He's not in the same league as Hitchins' recent fights against Liam Parr, Gustavo Lemos, Jose Zepeda or John Bauza.
