Berlanga's “Big Payday” offer to Pacheco a non-starter?

Edgar Berlanga came out of the woodwork last night to call out Super Middleweight contender Diego Pacheco in his moment of glory following his win over Steven Nelson in Las Vegas. Berlanga posted on social media saying he wanted to give it to him “The big pay day.”

Position from recently beaten Brooklyn, New York native Berlanga Reeks of persecutionTrying to get some cheap publicity by challenging #1 WBO Pacheco (23-0, 18 KO) after his dominant performance against Nelson (20-1, 16 KO) at the Las Vegas Cosmopolitan last Saturday night.

Promoter Eddie Hearn says he would be open to a fight between Berlanga and Pacheco. However, he looked skeptical, as if he didn't believe Edgar was serious about wanting to fight Diego. Hearn is a wise owl who knows that a Berlango-Pacheco fight has very little chance of happening.

Canelo effect

Berlanga's money demands will likely be high after the large purse he received for his successful title fight against Unified Super Middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez. Like many fighters who face Canelo, he's probably spoiled and wants similar dough in his next fight. That won't happen.

Even if the fight Berlanga vs. Pacheco plays the rivalry of Puerto Rico against Mexico, the match will not bring PPV buys. He's not worth selling on pay-per-view, and it would require Turki al-Sheikh to step in to pay the kind of money Berlanga would likely want.

There was talk of Berlanga wanting to fight the 39-year-old Pink fungus Next in Puerto Rico to capitalize on his popularity in that country. He was treated like a hero after his loss to Canelo. Putovnik Rosado is located right next to Berlanga's alley.

Berlanga was last seen losing to Canelo Alvarez via a 12-round unanimous decision on September 14th by the following scores: 118-109, 117-110 and 118-109.
