Stuart Kettlewell has resigned as Motherwell manager.
He was appointed in February 2023 and leaves the club fifth in the Scottish Premiership.
In a statement, Motherwell – who face Celtic live on Sky Sports on Sunday – said they had “reluctantly” accepted the resignation.
They added that Kettlewell told the club's chief executive Brian Caldwell that “some of the personal abuse was now affecting his family, to the extent that they did not want to attend the games”.
Assistant manager Stephen Frail will take charge of the team for Sunday's match, assisted by Jon Obika, Richard Foster and the backroom staff.
Motherwell chief executive 'very disappointed by abuse'
“It's really sad that Stewart felt it was the right time to move on,” Caldwell said.
“He had an outstanding record and generated an impressive amount of transfer revenue for the club.
“He has been a key factor in the development of Motherwell Academy graduates as well as the development of young loan players during his tenure.
“When Stuart approached me, I was very disappointed to learn the effect this had on his family and how he felt. No manager, player or employee at the club, all of whom give their all for the club, should feels like this.
“We therefore had no choice but to reluctantly accept his resignation in the best interests of Stewart and his family. As a fan-owned, community-led football club, we will always look after our own.”
