The mandate of Gautam Gambhir as the head coach of India has not gone according to the plan so far. The team did not achieve the desired result with the hammer in Australia in the Border-Gavaskar 2024-25 trophy being the latest delay.
After the weak results, his position was subjected to a serious threat. However, Aakash Chopra's former opener, believes that Gambhir's place will not be in danger, even if India does not do well in the future champions trophy.
According to Chopra, the mandate of Gautam Gambhir as the main coach must be reviewed after the test series against England, which will start in June this year. India will play a series of five matches in England after the completion of IPL 2025.

“You had to ensure transition” – Aakash Chopra at Gautam Gambhir
As he spoke on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra said that Gautam Gambhir's mandate will be reviewed after the test series in England and will continue even if India does not do well in the Champions Trophy.
“I still feel a tour of England. I don't think Bcci will tell him anything (Gautam Gambhir) until then. After the Tour of England, he will take a year since he took over,” Chopra said.
“You had to secure your transition in a year. So, how he did there, which the players prepared and if the team's performances have improved, a review can be made for him,” he added.
When will Gautam Gambhir's mandate be reviewed?
While talking on his channel, Aakash Chopra claimed that one year is at least to judge the performance of a coach. He asked BCCI to review the mandate of Gautam Gambhir just like any other player.
“At least a year at the job is absolutely important to review someone's performance. You need 12 months. So I don't feel the champions trophy, but the Tour of England,” Chopra said.
“This could only be a critical barometer or parameter on which Gautam Gambhir's performance could be revised. It will not be a bad thing. Review the performance of the bats and Bowlers, so do it for the coach,” he noted he.
The mandate of Gautam Gambhir as head coach of India
With Gautam Gambhir as a head coach, India lost in front of Sri Lanka in a series after 27 years. Blue men then suffered a shocking 0-3 series defeat compared to New Zealand in a series of tests at home. It was their first loss of test series at home in 12 years.
Recently, India lost a series of tests in Australia after a decade and offered the border trophy. It was also the first time that India failed to qualify for the World Test Championship (WTC). Gambhir has a large task before him before the champions trophy, as he intends to redeem himself.
India will travel to England for a series of five matches tests in June 2025. It will be an important series not only for players, but also for Gambhir, which will be under a huge pressure that will enter the tour.
